Ignition Coil

Ignition coils are a critical component of a vehicle's ignition system, responsible for transforming the relatively low voltage from the vehicle's electrical system into the high voltage needed to create an arc across the spark plug gap. This arc ignites the air-fuel mixture within the engine's cylinders, initiating the combustion process that powers the vehicle. Located within the engine bay, typically near the spark plugs or connected to the distributor (in older systems), ignition coils are used in passenger cars and commercial vehicles alike. Modern engines often utilize individual 'coil-on-plug' units for each cylinder, improving efficiency and reducing emissions.
