Oil Sump

Oil sumps, found within the Engine Parts > Lubrication System of passenger cars and commercial vehicles, serve as the reservoir for engine oil. Positioned at the lowest point of the engine, the oil sump collects oil returning from lubrication points throughout the engine and provides a supply for the oil pump. These components are typically constructed from pressed steel or aluminum alloy for strength and thermal conductivity. Oil sump designs vary to accommodate engine configuration and oil cooling requirements; some feature integrated oil coolers or baffles to manage oil slosh during vehicle movement.
